Cooking Classes

Garlic Press Cooking Classes have been offered for over 30 years and are one of our most popular features. We love to share our passion for good food and exploring new cuisines from around the world. We offer a wide range of styles from elegant menus for entertaining to familiar comfort food.

Due to class popularity and limited space, they fill up quickly, so plan ahead. Please call us to check class availability at 309.452.8841.

Private Cooking Classes

We’re also happy to work with you to provide custom Private Cooking Classes for groups (friends, bridal showers, co-workers…), call or email the store for detail!

Current Cooking Class Schedule

CLASS REGISTRATION POLICIES: WALK-IN REGISTRATION ONLY on Saturday, March 29th at 9:30am in the retail store. NOTE: the Garlic Press Cafe will OPEN EARLY at 8:30am before registration starts! General Registration accepted starting Monday March 31st @ 10am Class Limitations: Maximum of 2 Classes, 2 People per Class March 29-April 19. After April 19th, you may register for as many classes and people as you wish. CLASS PAYMENT DUE UPON REGISTRATION. 3 Hour evening classes are $40. The 90 minute classes are $30. Students are given a 10% storewide discount during class, some exceptions apply. Refunds: Only given if cancellations received 3 days before class date. If you cancel at other times class recipes will be issued. No alcohol is allowed.

Brunch Made Simply Beautifully—with Linda Coker. How do you find the time to prepare brunch? Well, Linda has thought of that with recipes that you can make in advance! Almond Granola with Dried Fruit, Rum-Raisin French Toast Casserole, individual Muffin Tin Frittatas with options for various fillings and fresh Honeydew, Mango & Blueberries with a Lime-Ginger reduction. $30 1:00—2:30pm, Saturday, April 26

Spring Dinner for Company—with Carol Hiebert. The snow will give way to Spring and new green shoots will sprout from the garden! This menu highlights the bounty: Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Black Olives & Oranges, Smashed New Potatoes with Leeks & Goat Cheese, Baby Spinach, Radish & Mint Salad, Creamy Lemon-Chive Dressing, Roasted Asparagus and for dessert Chilled Lemon Souffle with Caramel Sauce! $40 6:00-9:00pm Tuesday, April 29

Chefs Spring Brunch—with Colin & Sara Riley. If you’re too busy to have friends over for dinner, give brunch a try! Trained chefs, Colin and Sarah will show you how to whip up a Fruit Compote and cheese Crostini, Roasted Salmon with real Hollandaise Sauce & Asparagus and finish with a little sweet Rhubarb Crostata. $30 1:00—2:30pm Saturday May 3

The Southwest Table—with Sandi Knapp. Throw on your cowboy boots and pull out the chilis, it’s time to spice things up! Join Sandi for seriously satisfying Chicken-Mushroom Quesadillas, Smoked Southwest Chicken Chowder, Slimmed Down Beef Chimichangas and a simply delicious Southwestern Potato Salad. $30 11:00am—12:30pm Saturday, May 10

Farmers Market Vegetables—with Polly Bedford. One of our newest teachers, Polly is passionate about teaching! She scouts the local farmers market for what’s in season and shows you the best way to prep & store your veggies. Polly will cover steaming, roasting and sauteing for the most flavor & retaining nutrients and the best way to use leftovers and make your efforts last the week! $40 6:00-9:00pm Wednesday May 14

Memorial Day Cookout—with Linda Coker. Getting ready for the holiday cookout or any outside entertaining, Linda’s American classics will please a crowd. Join her for Creamy Gazpacho Andaluz, Turkey Burgers, French Potato Salad with Dijon Mustard & Herbs and finish with Mini Cheesecakes! $30 1:00—2:30pm Saturday May 17

Weeknight Main Course—with Sandi Knapp. Tonights menu is designed with ease and speed in mind. Five delicious recipes to introduce to your family include Chicken with Mushrooms & Balsamic Cream, Pork & Golden Apples, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Mexican-style Lasagna and Pasta with Sausage, Artichokes & Tomatoes.$40 6:00-9:00pm Monday, May 19

Stir Fry Cooking 101—with Carol Hiebert. We begged Carol to teach this class, it has been many years and is one of her best. Many of us learned these same techniques from her and use them still. She will cover the basic rules for Stir Frying, buying, seasoning and caring for Woks, cutting, marinating and cooking meat and the types of cuts for various vegetables. A great class for people that would like to improve their knife skills !$40 6:00-9:00pm Tuesday, May 20

Spring Delights—with Colin & Sara Riley. A menu to enjoy and impress will be geared towards the bounty of Spring using some locally sourced foods. Join them for a luscious Crab Bisque, Lamb Scallopini with Tarragon White Wine Sauce and a sweet ending with Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with Raspberry Sauce. $30 11:00am-12:30pm Saturday, May 31

Quick & Easy Weekday Dishes—with Carol Hiebert. We asked for quick dinners for busy lives and she’s got it! Your family will be impressed with Speedy Shrimp, Baby Greens & Cannellini Beans, Moroccon Carrot & Goat Cheese Sandwiches, Thai-Style Chicken with Mushrooms, Green Beans & Basil, Pan-Seared Talipia with Cherry Tomato & Olive Sauce and finish the evening with Fresh Fruit in Puff Pastry. $40 6:00-9:00pm Monday, June 2

Cooking with Kids—with Sandi Knapp. We have heard many requests for a kids class, so Sandi stepped up to the plate with a great menu kids will love and learn from! What kid doesn’t like pizza? Learn how to make French Bread Chicken Pizza, make homemade Meatballs in a Spaghetti Bird’s Nest and everyone will get in on the action making Cookies with Everything and take home a few to enjoy! Let’s Make Dinner for Beginners—with Sandi Knapp. People are cooking at home to make more nutritious meals that cost less to make and several of you asked for a beginners class. Spend a Saturday morning learning something new and join Sandi for Caramelized Onion Dip, Parmesan Chicken with Greens & Lemon Vinaigrette, Oven Roasted Tomatoes with Herbs and Fluffy Chocolate Cake!$30 11:00-12:30pm Saturday, June 14

Welcome to the Tropics—with Linda Coker. Dreaming of warmer weather and the summer to follow this class will celebrate the bounty of the tropics and add variety to your entertaining repertoire. Summer at the Uptown Farmer’s Market—with Carol Hiebert. Early summer produce abounds at the Farmer’s Market. Join Carol for a Garlic Press favorite as you shop the Uptown Normal Market, meet local farmers, then return to the classroom for a meal made from the produce you helped select.
