Cooking Classes

Garlic Press Cooking Classes have been offered for over 30 years and are one of our most popular features. We love to share our passion for good food and exploring new cuisines from around the world. We offer a wide range of styles from elegant menus for entertaining to familiar comfort food.

Due to class popularity and limited space, they fill up quickly, so plan ahead. Please call us to check class availability at 309.452.8841.

Private Cooking Classes

We’re also happy to work with you to provide custom Private Cooking Classes for groups (friends, bridal showers, co-workers…), call or email the store for detail!

Current Cooking Class Schedule

CLASS REGISTRATION POLICIES: WALK-IN REGISTRATION ONLY on Saturday, Sept 27th at 9:30am in the retail store. NOTE: the Garlic Press Cafe will OPEN EARLY at 8:30am before registration starts! General Registration accepted starting Monday Sept 29th @ 10am. Class Limitations: Maximum of 2 Classes, 2 People per Class Sept 27-Oct 18th. After Oct 18th, you may register for as many classes and people as you wish. CLASS PAYMENT DUE UPON REGISTRATION. 3 Hour evening classes are $40. The 90 minute classes are $30. Students are given a 10% storewide discount during class, some exceptions apply. Refunds: Only given if cancellations received 3 days before class date. If you cancel at other times class recipes will be issued.

BBQ Party at the Ranch, Part I—with Linda Coker. Earlier this year Linda moved to Colorado to do what she loves, cook, at the upscale C Lazy U Ranch, celebrating its 100 year anniversary this year! She’s back for a weekend visit to share her Ranch experience! BBQ Party at the Ranch, PartII—with Linda Coker. Part II of entertaining with a western flare, Linda has put together this menu based on her Colorado experience that will give you a reason to invite your friends over and turn up the music. Join Linda for Black Bean Soup with Chipotle Chiles, BBQ Beef Brisket, Coleslaw with Apples & Blue Cheese and mouth watering Kettle Corn Party Mix (very addictive)! $30                 Note: 90 minute class, 1-2:30pm  Sunday, Oct 5

Elegant Dinner Party Planned!—with Linda Coker. With Linda’s culinary degree and diverse cooking experience she has proven herself to be a dynamic Chef that finds joy in teaching her skills to others. Master this elegant menu and start the party with Bruschetta with Goat Cheese, Fig & Prosciutto and a Bacon Avocado Caesar Salad. The main event is a Roast Beef Tenderloin with caramelized onions, Red Potatoes with dijon & tarragon and Profiteroles for dessert. Not to miss! $40 Monday, Oct 6

Chocolate Dipped Everything—with Maria Kemp. We are thrilled to introduce a new teacher to the Garlic Press line up: Maria Kemp, a professionally trained Pastry Chef and former owner of the local business Decadence Bakery & Pastries. Learn the secrets that will guarantee success every time as you learn how to dip chocolate like a pro and fill the ultimate dessert platter. We’ll dip elegant strawberries, raspberries, bacon, pretzels and more and finish these treats with various nuts, salts & spices. Create French Mendiants with nuts & fruit. Learn how easy it is to make elegant chocolate dessert cups with homemade real chocolate cinnamon whipped cream. Oh my! $30                              Note: 90 minute class, limit of 20 students, 6-7:30pm                          Thursday, Oct. 9

Quick & Hearty Menu for the Week—with Sandi Knapp. It may not be cold enough outside yet, but as soon as the first leaves fall you’ll want to start making these meals to satisfy your family. Join Sandi for Smothered Pork Chops with buttermilk gravy, Meatloaf with veggies & balsamic glaze, Ham Steaks with salad and Sweet Potato Dressing, glazed Citrus Chicken and Pasta with Sausage, Fennel & Romano Cheese. $40 Monday, Oct. 13

Cooking the Le Creuset Way—with Trish Ranello. Join us for an evening of seasonal dishes to warm your family on a blustery fall evening with Trish from Le Creuset. Learn to make Pasta Fagiole Soup, Braised Black Pepper Beef, Savory Bread Pudding,  mixed Vegetable Tian and  something sweet baked in a Le Creuset ceramic mug that you get to take home with you at the end of class! $40 Tuesday, Oct. 14

Fast and Easy Yeast Breads—with Carol Hiebert. Get ready for holiday gift giving, entertaining or simply noshing after an afternoon of leaf raking! These recipes have proven to be reliable, fast and easy and will become a regular part of your kitchen know-how! Learn the basics of Quick Roll Dough to make Cinnamon Rolls, Christmas Tree Bread and Filled Braids with Italian Sausage filling. Carol’s One Hour Olive Oil Bread (Focaccia) is a staff favorite you must learn! Make Rosemary & Olive Flatbread, Breakfast Focaccia with Pears and just in time Spooky Halloween spider bread! $40 Wednesday, Oct 22

Holiday Entertaining In A Snap—with Sandi Knapp. You want to invite people over for a little holiday cheer, but you’re intimidated by coming up with a menu? Sandi will show you how easy it can be with the right menu. To start: Creamy Broccoli Soup, Citrus Glazed Scallop & Avocado Salad, Mushroom dusted Chicken Scaloppini, Hassleback Sweet Potatoes and make ahead Black Forest Cheesecake Parfaits. Cooking with Kids I —with Brandy Jo Rossiter. Brandy is back cooking with her niece, Summer Rossiter, to fuel the excitement of young people that may be interested in cooking. Starting off with a snack attack of Chex Caramel Corn Mix (great for gift giving), Breakfast Sausage English Muffin Bites, Chili Mac and Cheese, individual Spiced Chicken Loaves and dessert Peanut Butter & Jelly Bars! The kitchen might get messy, but it’ll be a lot of fun! $35    Class is limited to 20 people-10 children (ages 6-12 only), with one accompanying parent. $50 for parent and child. Wednesday, Oct 29

Pedestal Desserts for Company—with Sandi Knapp. Learn to impress your friends and family with these after dinner favorites (you’ll have to make coffee) that everyone will love: Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake, Golden Layer Cake with Chocolate Walnut Frosting and Ultimate Lemon Meringue Pie (maybe it’s best to eat dessert first after all!). $30                  Note: 90 minute class, 1-2:30pm Saturday, Nov 1

Savoring the Seasons Harvest—with Carol Hiebert. An appetizing new menu from Carol with a little inspiration from Sara Moulton. Start the meal with a colorful Carrot & Red Pepper Soup with Chipotle Cream, a salad of Mixed Greens with Savory Pecan Brittle & Cranberries. For the main event: Pork Scalloppini with mustard & grapes and Make Ahead Dinner Rolls. And we’re always happy when there’s dessert, Little Pumpkin Flans with Ginger Whipped Cream. $40 Tuesday, Nov 4

Dinner for Date Night—with Colin & Sara Riley. Don’t miss an entertaining and informative afternoon with trained Chefs Colin & Sara as they take you through the steps to create a mouth watering meal. Sauteed Shrimp with Creamy Horseradish Sauce, Roasted Mushroom and Parsnip Risotto with Parmesan & Parsley and a sweet finish of Ginger Snaps. $30                        Note: 90 minute class, 1-2:30pm Saturday, Nov 8

Cooking with Kids II—with Brandy Jo Rossiter. The second children’s class this season, Brandy will have the help of her niece, Summer, to teach this perfectly fall menu including: Edible Indian Corn, Turkey Gnocchi Soup, Pizza Style Cannelloni, Apple Pie Party Dip and homemade bread with Cranberry Honey Butter. $35 Class is limited to 20 people-10 children (ages 6-12 only), with one accompanying parent. $50 for parent and child. Puff Pastry Party—with Carol Hiebert. There’s more to Puff Pastry than making cheese straws, Carol will teach you how to make quick Galettes, Brie en Croute Two Ways, Make-Ahead Individual Beef Wellingtons, Pear-Shaped Tarts, Starry Eggs & Smoked Salmon, how to assemble a Puff Pastry Wreath for an elegant open house and Pastry wrapped Baked Apples. $40 Tuesday, Nov 18
